SUMMARY:DanceAspen Ember Glow
DESCRIPTION:This performance will take place on Sat\, Feb 15 and Sun\, Feb 16. Click here if you are interested in the Sunday performance. \nJoin DanceAspen for Ember Glow\, an evening of transformative dance that ignites the stage with powerful storytelling and dynamic choreography. Featuring world premieres from celebrated guest choreographers Gabrielle Lamb and Noelle Kayser\, as well as exciting new works from DanceAspen’s own Kaya Wolsey and Matthew Gilmore\, Ember Glow promises to be a captivating fusion of innovation and artistry. \nIn a special highlight\, Gilmore’s piece\, commissioned by the Wheeler Opera House\, offers an ode to the venue’s rich history\, capturing the spirit of this iconic Aspen landmark. \nDon’t miss this evening of stunning performances\, celebrating creativity and heritage. \nGuest Choreographers \nGabrielle Lamb:  “Bodies scatter\, drift\, and recoalesce. This work is a meditation on cycles of resilience: how systems collapse\, how relationships fracture\, how broken pieces retain memory of their wholeness.  My creative residency in Aspen began on November 5\, 2024 (Election Day)\, The following morning I swept up my own broken pieces and returned to the studio to explore the idea of metamorphosis — a never ending process of falling apart and finding ourselves again. The Dance Aspen artists have a remarkable capacity to embody both classical form and contemporary articulation. Their moments of pointe technique reveal an architecture of possibility. These dancers balance on the edge between control and imminent collapse. Each point of contact becomes an instant of potential: rigorous\, mathematical\, yet always on the verge of dissolving into something entirely new.” \nNoelle Kayser:  “The work explores human ambition and its evolution—from our ancestors’ drive to scale\, sail\, and build in communion with nature\, to modern technological innovations that pull us deeper into our minds and further from the natural world. It considers ambition through the lens of being a dance artist—the mental and physical rigor and stamina demanded by the craft. Ultimately\, the work reflects on human’s incessant desire for ‘more’ and its impact on our relationship with the environment\, each other\, and ourselves.”
