DESCRIPTION:This Independence Day\, the Wheeler Opera House invites the public to celebrate not only America’s 250th anniversary\, but the enduring role of this historic building animated by creativity and community spirit. For more than 137 years\, the Wheeler has served as a cultural beacon of the art in and for Aspen\, bringing artists\, audiences\, and the community together. \nWe’ve invited BANDALOOP\, the internationally renowned vertical dance company based in West Oakland\, California\, to activate  the façade of the Wheeler with a series of free\, outdoor performances These immersive 20-minute performances will take place throughout the afternoon at 1pm\, 3pm\, and 5pm\, offering yet another reason to gather and experience what makes Aspen special. \nAn innovator of vertical performance\, BANDALOOP  re-imagines dance by weaving dynamic physicality and intricate choreography with climbing technology to activate architecture in unexpected ways. Since its founding\, the company has performed on historic buildings and landmarks around the world\, including The Apollo Theater in New York City\, the Space Needle in Seattle\, and the Old Jeddah City in Saudi Arabia. Named for the mystical\, dancing people of Tom Robbins’ Jitterbug Perfume\, BANDALOOP brings a sense of wonder\, technical mastery\, and global perspective to this celebration of place—transforming the Wheeler itself into a living stage. \nBANDALOOP is funded by the City of Oakland\, The Bloomberg Foundation\, the National Endowment for the Arts and a diverse set of individual donors\, corporate sponsors and property stakeholders from around the world. @BANDALOOPING \n \n
