SUMMARY:Aspen Music Festival and School | Matthew Aucoin: Music for New Bodies
DESCRIPTION:Premiered in April 2024\, this major new work is from the creative team of MacArthur award-winning composer Matthew Aucoin\, whose commissioning credits include the Metropolitan Opera\, Carnegie Hall\, and Lyric Opera of Chicago\, and director Peter Sellars\, celebrated for his operatic collaborations with John Adams\, Tyshawn Sorey\, and the late Kaija Saariaho. Inspired by the writings of visionary poet Jorie Graham and pioneering environmentalist Rachel Carson\, Aucoin and Sellars’s new work offers an immersion in vast planetary processes. \nThey explain: “We follow the migration of eels to the depths of the Atlantic Basin; we hear the voice of the ocean floor itself\, speaking with superhuman pressure and force; we experience humankind’s impact on our planet\, and we also sense the presence of cycles so immense that they are beyond human influence.” \nA co-commission of the DaCamera ensemble\, Shepherd School of Music\, LA Opera\, American Modern Opera Company (AMOC)\, and Aspen Music Festival & School\, Music for New Bodies is scored for five vocal soloists and an 18-piece instrumental ensemble.

SUMMARY:Gabriel Santiago & Peter Stoltzman | Joy in Friends
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening of music as Brazilian guitarist Gabriel Santiago and jazz pianist Peter John Stoltzman bring their decade-long collaboration to the stage in an intimate duo performance. Over the years\, Santiago and Stoltzman have performed in various ensembles across the U.S. and Brazil\, and now\, for the first time\, they’re touring as a duo to celebrate the release of their new CD\, Joy in Friends. \nTheir musical journey began in Austin\, where both were completing advanced degrees—Santiago in composition and Stoltzman in music education. Stoltzman recalls being instantly captivated by Santiago’s “gorgeous harmonies and heartfelt melodies\,” and their shared passion for pushing improvisation to new heights forged a deep connection. \nRecorded at Colorado Sound Studio\, their latest album blends the rich sounds of Brazilian music with jazz\, weaving acoustic guitar and piano into a moving and joyful expression of their friendship. As Santiago describes it\, “Peter is such a unique musician\, and performing with him has been one of the most precious moments of my life. I can’t wait to share this music with audiences here in Colorado and beyond.” \n \n

SUMMARY:International Guitar Night XXV
DESCRIPTION:The 25th Anniversary North American Tour of International Guitar Night features Lulo Reinhardt\, Alexandra Whittingham\, Niwel Tsumbu and Sönke Meinen.\nJoin us for the 25th Annual North American Tour of International Guitar Night\, a celebration of the world’s most innovative and diverse guitar talents. Brian Gore has curated a stellar lineup featuring Lulo Reinhardt (Germany)\, Alexandra Whittingham (Britain)\, Niwel Tsumbu (Democratic Republic of The Congo) and Sönke Meinen (Germany)\, promising a night of breathtaking performances that span the global spectrum of guitar artistry. \nThe grand-nephew of legendary Django Reinhardt\, Lulo Reinhardt  plays Latin Swing music\, a combination of Gypsy Swing with Latin rhythms. Lulo\, a name associated with World Music and his patented Latin Swing\, is a guitar virtuoso with unmistakable roots. He was born in Koblenz\, Germany on December 10\, 1961 and comes from the famous Reinhardt family. Lulo was raised in the Sinti tradition where Django Reinhardt’s music played a massive part. \nA Sinto and a cosmopolitan\, Lulo Reinhardt continuously embraces the new and the unknown in his dreams\, ideas and plans\, so we can expect many exciting projects in the future. \n \n  \nYoung British guitarist Alexandra Whittingham trained classically for twelve years before releasing her debut album My European Journey in 2021. The album focuses on 19th-century European repertoire. Her passion for 19th-century music combined with a love of discovering lesser-known composers and bringing them into the spotlight. Staple works by Napoléon Coste\, Giulio Regondi\, and Luigi Legnani give a warm Romantic embrace to a clutch of unheard miniatures – brimming with character and local color from Vienna\, London\, Copenhagen\, and beyond. \nCloser to home Alexandra has performed at London’s Abbey Road Studios\, County Hall\, Milton Court Concert Hall\, the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and Wells Cathedral. She has also appeared as a concerto soloist with Gorton Philharmonic Orchestra\, Dorset Chamber Orchestra and Orquestra Vigo 430 with whom she performed three concerts in Spain in 2021. She is delighted to be an Augustine Strings artist\, using their Regal Blue range\, and plays a 2011 Christopher Dean guitar. \n \n  \nNiwel Tsumbu is a guitarist and singer who grew up with the hip-swinging Soukous music from the Democratic Republic Of The Congo. Strongly influenced by guitarists such as Paco de Lucia\, Luambo Makiadi\, Baden Powell and Joe Pass\, Niwel Tsumbu has amalgamated these different styles and blurred the boundaries of African\, Classical and Jazz music with his amazing virtuosity\, passion and graceful guitar playing. \nNiwel Tsumbu is a virtuosic Congolese-born\, Ireland-based guitarist. He has created a unique and exhilarating style drawing on influences as diverse as jazz\,
classical\, rock\, folk and rhumba. At times Tsumbu’s music is a deep emotional well\, drawing joy and sadness from universal human waters. At other times it’s a high-tech vehicle flashing with excitement across nations\, continents\, and the cosmos. \n \n  \nA single guitar and a bar stool\, Sönke Meinen doesn’t need much more to break with the expectations of a conventional guitar concert and to enthuse his audiences all over the world. With his captivating performances\, the charismatic musician makes acoustic guitar music accessible to everyone who is looking for something original\, handmade and extraordinary or simply for finest musical entertainment. \nThe concerts of the award-winning musician are by no means for guitar connoisseurs only. He shares unbelievable and hilarious stories about his compositions and leads through a top-class concert evening in a pleasantly empathetic and relaxed manner. \n \n
