SUMMARY:Proactive & Prepared: Wildfire in the Roaring Fork Valley
DESCRIPTION:Wheeler Opera House is pleased to partner with the Wildfire Collaborative Roaring Fork Valley\, Aspen Public Radio and ACES on an event designed to increase awareness and preparedness as wildfire season approaches. \nColorado is experiencing its warmest year in 131 years of record\, and one of its driest. The Roaring Fork Valley sits at the epicenter\, among the hardest-hit areas in the state for severe drought. With snowpack now peaked at historic lows\, climate scientists are drawing comparisons to years that defined what catastrophic wildfire looks like in Colorado. This spring\, wildfire risk across our valley is as serious as it has ever been. \nOn Thursday June 4\, the Wheeler is partnering with the Wildfire Collaborative Roaring Fork Valley\, Aspen Public Radio\, and ACES to bring our community together for a direct conversation about what these conditions mean for our valley\, what local fire departments and researchers are doing about it\, and what each of us can do to protect our homes and our neighbors. \nWe’ll start the presentation at 6pm sharp\, with opportunities for attendees to connect to presenters and panelists in the lobby both before and after the event. \nIf you’ve been wondering where things actually stand\, this is the event to attend. \nUtilizing Wildfire Collaborative Roaring Fork Valley’s boots-on-the-ground expertise\, Aspen Public Radio’s journalistic prowess\, and ACES’ decades of environmental experience\, an informative evening will review this season’s wildfire outlook\, new predictive technologies and resilience increasing efforts in our region. \nThe evening is organized around three questions:\nWhat are we facing this season?\nWhat is being done about it?\nWhat happens when fire comes? \nDrawing on the Wildfire Collaborative Roaring Fork Valley’s work in fire behavior modeling and fuels mitigation\, Aspen Public Radio’s deep ties to this community\, and ACES knowledge of historic environmental science\, the program brings together the people best positioned to answer those questions — climate scientists\, local fire chiefs\, researchers\, and emergency response leaders — in one room\, for one conversation.

SUMMARY:Community Series at Aspen Ideas: Health – Longevity at Altitude $20
DESCRIPTION:Living at high elevations seems to pay off. The communities surrounding Aspen have the highest life expectancies in the nation\, averaging about 86 years. And recent research has found an association between life at high altitudes and lower risk of dying from heart disease\, stroke\, and some cancers. But that advantage isn’t a guarantee\, and there are plenty of things we can do to improve the odds of maintaining lifelong wellness at any altitude. Here is a look at the lifestyle and healthcare tools that can help keep us in peak form. \nMegan Hiles\, Primary Care Physician; Director\, Longevity and Wellness Center\, Aspen Valley Health \nJamie Justice\, Executive Vice President of the Health Domain\, XPRIZE Foundation \nModerator: Allison Aubrey\, Health and Science Correspondent\, NPR

SUMMARY:Community Series at Aspen Ideas: Health – Digital Health in Aspen $20
DESCRIPTION:Wearables that track steps\, heart rate\, and sleep quality have become commonplace among fitness enthusiasts and others in Aspen. Today’s devices go further\, offering continuous\, personalized monitoring to measure heart rhythm\, oxygen levels\, and movement patterns. In this health-conscious community\, the data can help improve athletic performance\, sync with food-tracking apps to highlight the links between diet and energy levels\, and provide early warning signals of disease. But how reliable are these technologies? Using them wisely requires that we feel confident in their accuracy\, agree on what truly qualifies as medical advice\, and protect the value of an effective doctor-patient relationship. \nAmi Bhatt\, Chief Innovation Officer\, American College of Cardiology\nMichelle Gelroth\, Chief Transformation Officer\, Aspen Valley Health\nModerator: Elizabeth Cohen\, Contributor\, NBC News and AtlanticLIVE

DESCRIPTION:Part of the Wheeler’s ongoing Changemaker Speaker Series\, A250 Portrait of a Nation features Pulitzer Prize–winning photographer Deanne Fitzmaurice in an illustrated talk marking America’s 250th anniversary and Colorado’s 150th. Offered free to the public with advance RSVP required\, the program reflects a shared commitment to access\, civic dialogue\, and storytelling that sparks reflection and connection. \nDrawing from nearly forty years as a photojournalist—including her tenure at the San Francisco Chronicle and assignments for National Geographic\, Sports Illustrated\, and ESPN—Fitzmaurice revisits defining chapters of recent American history. Her work spans the AIDS crisis\, the Loma Prieta earthquake\, marriage‑equality rulings\, climate events\, and cultural touchstones from professional sports to Route 66. \nCentral to the presentation is her Pulitzer Prize–winning photographic essay chronicling the recovery of a wounded Iraqi boy\, anchoring a broader meditation on resilience\, humanity\, and the role of visual journalism in shaping national memory. As part of the Changemaker Speaker Series\, A250 Portrait of a Nation highlights the power of storytelling to deepen understanding during moments of historic significance. \nThis is a free\, but ticketed\, community event; advance RSVP is encouraged to secure reservations.

SUMMARY:Commedia dell'arte
DESCRIPTION:Camille Henrot brings her interdisciplinary practice to the stage for the first time with the world premiere of Commedia dell’arte. Co-commissioned by Performa\, Aspen Art Museum / Wheeler Opera House\, and LYRA Art Foundation\, Henrot’s performance incorporates the stock characters and comic ploys of the Italian Renaissance theatrical tradition within a modern day New York City apartment building. The delivery of a package triggers a cascade of uncanny events among tenants\, as the tragi-comedic play attempts to make sense out of the senseless\, ultimately collapsing into it. \nThe work draws on Henrot’s distinct visual language\, shaped by her background as a cartoonist\, as well as the slapstick and gestural comedy of Buster Keaton\, Jim Carrey\, and Tex Avery. Henrot engages and reconfigures the formal languages of film and television\, media whose own structures are shaped by the conventions and performative structures of early theater. In a zany collision of mundanity and excess\, Henrot constructs a portrait of contemporary life in which hustle and reflection\, wealth and precarity\, share a wall—bodies always in motion\, in the constant performance of being. \nThe performance was developed in collaboration with set designers Charlap Hyman & Herrero\, costume designer Sandra Berrebi\, writer Estelle Hoy\, playwright Justine Gelfman\, choreographer Sigrid Lauren\, and lighting designer Dan Stearns with original music and live sound by Aaron David Ross and Mauro Hertig. \n\nPlease visit https://airaspen.org/ for more information \nIMAGE CREDIT: \nCamille Henrot\, Study for Pantalone\, the Landlord\, 2025. \n© ADAGP Camille Henrot.
