SUMMARY:Cirque Kalabante: World of Words
DESCRIPTION:Cirque Kalabanté: WOW\, World of Words explores communication beyond spoken language through circus\, storytelling\, music\, and movement. At Wheeler Opera House in Aspen\, the production brings two groups together on a stage divided by a symbolic line. One shares ancestral African knowledge through stories\, songs\, and ritual initiation\, while the other receives\, learns\, and sometimes resists. \nAs language becomes an obstacle\, gesture\, rhythm\, and sound form a new vocabulary. Double Dutch skipping\, bungee straps\, rope-based contortion\, and acrobatic contact become pathways for dialogue. Guided by Trust\, Respect\, and Wisdom\, the performers gradually dissolve the boundary between them\, blending traditional and contemporary movement in a choreography of unity and collective awakening. \nKalabanté Productions was founded in Montreal in 2007 by Yamoussa Bangoura\, a multidisciplinary artist of Guinean origin whose work draws on West African traditions and international circus experience. The company now performs worldwide and operates a Montreal studio and school offering African dance\, circus\, and drumming classes.

SUMMARY:Wheeler Associates Presents: Andy Falco & Travis Book Play Jerry Garcia
DESCRIPTION:Andy Falco and Travis Book are both members of the Grammy\naward winning bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters.\nInspired by their love of the music of Jerry Garcia\, the duo branches\noff on their own for occasional tours to celebrate Garcia’s timeless\nsongs. \n“The project actually originated back stage at ‘Dusters shows where\nTravis and I would typically warm up with some fun Jerry songs”\nFalco explains. “At some point we just thought it would be fun to\ndo it in public” \nThey draw from Garcia’s solo material\, his Grateful Dead catalogue\nas well as the Traditional songs Jerry loved to play. \n“Performing this music as a duo allows us to explore the songs and\njam in a way that’s unique to playing as a Duo” Says Book. “We\ntypically hear these songs in larger ensembles\, but the songs done\nwith just bass and guitar somehow make the music very interactive\nwith the audience. It’s really a testament to the quality of the\nsongwriting\, and we like to put a spotlight on that aspect of Jerry.”

SUMMARY:Changemaker Speaker Series Casey Anderson: Among Wild Predators
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Changemaker Speaker Series\, wildlife filmmaker and National Geographic explorer Casey Anderson brings audiences face‑to‑face with the animals most people avoid: grizzlies\, mountain lions\, tigers\, and other apex predators. Drawing on three decades in the field—including being charged\, bitten\, clawed\, stung\, and even raising a grizzly bear—Anderson pairs breathtaking imagery with deeply personal stories that challenge long‑held myths about “dangerous” wildlife. \nAmong Wild Predators is both an adventure and a reframing: predators as vital\, intelligent beings—and as mirrors of our own courage\, empathy\, and survival instincts. At 26 he adopted an orphaned cub and later co‑founded Montana Grizzly Encounter\, a sanctuary for bears rescued from inhumane situations. A familiar presence across Nat Geo WILD\, BBC\, PBS\, and Discovery\, Anderson translates close‑range encounters into insight about coexistence\, risk\, and respect for the wild. \nPresented in association with Aspen Center for Environmental Studies

SUMMARY:Stories for a Saturday Night: An Evening with Ira Glass
DESCRIPTION:This American Life host Ira Glass brings a night of storytelling in the style he pioneered on his hit radio show: funny stories with feelings. His program is heard each week by over three million listeners and has won the highest honors in broadcasting\, including three Emmys (for a TV adaptation)\, eight Peabody Awards and the first Pulitzer Prize ever given to a radio show or podcast. For decades\, it’s been one of the most popular podcasts in the world. Glass invented a way to tell radio stories that reshaped audio storytelling and has been widely imitated. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the show or discovering his work for the first time\, you’re in for an evening of funny and moving stories about people who may as well be your neighbors\, your friends\, or you. \n“It can be easy to take the greatness of “This American Life\,” the weekly public-radio show and podcast hosted by Ira Glass\, for granted. It was instrumental in creating a genre of audio journalism that has flourished in recent decades\, especially since the podcast boom—which was initiated by the show’s first spinoff\, “Serial\,” in 2014. Like “The Daily Show” or Second City\, “This American Life” has trained a generation of talented people\, and Glass’s three-act structures\, chatty cadences\, and mixture of analysis and whimsy are now so familiar as to seem unremarkable.” The New Yorker. \n“This American Life’s approach was so revolutionary\, the results didn’t seem like documentaries at all. Now all radio documentaries sound a bit like TAL.” The Guardian \n“This American Life began as an experiment in form and tone; the idea was to produce a distinct narrative style of radio storytelling. It’s a testament to This American Life’s impact and ubiquity that its chatty style of narration now looms over audio producers everywhere.” New York Magazine \nPresented in association with Aspen Public Radio
