Seven dancers perform within a visual world shaped by Americana-inspired costumes and cinematic projections\, accompanied by either a live band or recorded music. \nSet to songs including “Take Me Home\, Country Roads\,” “Rocky Mountain High\,” “Annie’s Song\,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders\,” and “Leaving on a Jet Plane\,” the work follows four interwoven stories of love\, separation\, conflict\, and belonging. Denver’s familiar music gives audiences an immediate connection to the piece\, while the choreography offers a new way to experience it. \nBalancing familiarity with discovery\, the work welcomes dance audiences\, John Denver listeners\, families\, and first-time contemporary dancegoers into a story they already feel connected to. \nTake Me Home brings together an acclaimed creative team led by choreographers Jamar Roberts\, Pam Tanowitz\, Penny Saunders\, Noelle Kayser\, Jonah Delgado\, and Matthew Gilmore. Music direction is by Mack Bailey\, the Aspen musician who performed with John Denver. The production’s visual world is further shaped by John Horzen’s projection and video design\, costume design by Reid & Harriet\, and lighting design by Anna Pillot\, creating a richly layered theatrical experience that complements DanceAspen’s contemporary interpretation of Denver’s iconic music. \nTake Me Home is a DanceAspen production commissioned by the City of Aspen’s Wheeler Opera House\, Mike Harrington (Executive Director). DESCRIPTION:Andy Falco and Travis Book are both members of the Grammy\naward winning bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters.\nInspired by their love of the music of Jerry Garcia\, the duo branches\noff on their own for occasional tours to celebrate Garcia’s timeless\nsongs. \n“The project actually originated back stage at ‘Dusters shows where\nTravis and I would typically warm up with some fun Jerry songs”\nFalco explains. “At some point we just thought it would be fun to\ndo it in public” \nThey draw from Garcia’s solo material\, his Grateful Dead catalogue\nas well as the Traditional songs Jerry loved to play. \n“Performing this music as a duo allows us to explore the songs and\njam in a way that’s unique to playing as a Duo” Says Book. “We\ntypically hear these songs in larger ensembles\, but the songs done\nwith just bass and guitar somehow make the music very interactive\nwith the audience. It’s really a testament to the quality of the\nsongwriting\, and we like to put a spotlight on that aspect of Jerry.”
