DESCRIPTION:Join Sugar Skull! A Día de Muertos Musical Adventure cast member Felicia B. Ávalos for an interactive dance workshop inspired by the vibrant Mexican dance traditions featured in the production. Participants will learn movement and choreography drawn from regional dance styles while exploring the music\, culture\, and traditions that bring these dances to life. \n\nDesigned for families and participants of all ages and experience levels\, this welcoming workshop encourages everyone to move\, learn\, and celebrate together. No prior dance experience is required.\nFelicia B. Ávalos is a dynamic Tejana storyteller\, performer\, and educator whose work combines cultural heritage\, artistic expression\, and community engagement. She holds an MFA in Dance and an MA in Arts Politics and has toured with Sugar Skull! since 2022. \n\nThe class is 75 minutes long followed with a special 15 minute performance by dancers participating in the Advanced Folklórico Master Class\, offering attendees a glimpse into more advanced regional Mexican dance traditions. \nThe workshop will be held at Dance Progressions (403 Aspen Airport Business Center\, Aspen\, CO 81611).

SUMMARY:Regional Mexican Folklórico Master Class
DESCRIPTION:Designed for experienced Folklórico dancers\, this master class offers an in-depth exploration of the regional Mexican dance traditions featured in Sugar Skull! A Día de Muertos Musical Adventure. Participants will strengthen technique\, refine performance skills\, and gain cultural context while learning choreography inspired by the production. The workshop will be led by Brenda Flores and Christopher Cortez\, accomplished artists with extensive professional experience in Mexican folklórico and concert dance. \n\nBrenda Flores began her professional career as a Mexican folklórico dancer and later toured nationally and internationally with the renowned Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández\, including a residency at Mexico City’s Palace of Fine Arts. She also contributed to the creative development of Disney’s Plaza de Coco aboard the Disney Treasure. \n\nChristopher Cortez trained at The Alvin Ailey School in New York City and has performed with companies including Calpulli Mexican Dance Company and Ballet Nepantla. His work bridges traditional Mexican dance and contemporary performance. \n\nThis is a 90 minute class. During the final 15 minutes of the class\, participants will share selected choreography with attendees from the Family & All Levels Workshop. \nThe workshop will be held at Dance Progressions (403 Aspen Airport Business Center\, Aspen\, CO 81611).
