Friedl is a sweeping documentary portrait of Friedl Pfeifer, one of the most influential figures in American skiing, whose life bridged prewar Europe and the rise of Aspen as an international ski destination. Born on a farm in St. Anton, Austria, Pfeifer became an elite alpine racer, winning the legendary Grossglockner race before fleeing Nazi persecution after the arrest of his mentor, Hannes Schneider. His journey carried him across continents to the United States, where he was briefly interned as an enemy alien before serving with the 10th Mountain Division in World War II.
Directed by Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame inductee Chris Anthony, the film combines historical depth with cinematic mountain storytelling. Anthony, an award‑winning filmmaker and former Warren Miller Entertainment host, brings decades of experience as an athlete, historian, and storyteller to Pfeifer’s remarkable legacy, including his role in modernizing Sun Valley Ski School and founding Aspen Skiing Company.
