Take Me Home, a world-premiere production from DanceAspen, brings John Denver’s music together with contemporary dance in a new evening-length work by DanceAspen. Seven dancers perform within a visual world shaped by Americana-inspired costumes and cinematic projections, accompanied by either a live band or recorded music.
Set to songs including “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Rocky Mountain High,” “Annie’s Song,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” and “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” the work follows four interwoven stories of love, separation, conflict, and belonging. Denver’s familiar music gives audiences an immediate connection to the piece, while the choreography offers a new way to experience it.
Balancing familiarity with discovery, the work welcomes dance audiences, John Denver listeners, families, and first-time contemporary dancegoers into a story they already feel connected to.
Take Me Home brings together an acclaimed creative team led by choreographers Jamar Roberts, Pam Tanowitz, Penny Saunders, Noelle Kayser, Jonah Delgado, and Matthew Gilmore. Music direction is by Mack Bailey, the Aspen musician who performed with John Denver. The production’s visual world is further shaped by John Horzen’s projection and video design, costume design by Reid & Harriet, and lighting design by Anna Pillot, creating a richly layered theatrical experience that complements DanceAspen’s contemporary interpretation of Denver’s iconic music.
