Regional Mexican Folklórico Master Class

October 10 @ 11:00 am

Untitled – August 28, 2026 at 15.41.44

Designed for experienced Folklórico dancers, this master class offers an in-depth exploration of the regional Mexican dance traditions featured in Sugar Skull! A Día de Muertos Musical Adventure. Participants will strengthen technique, refine performance skills, and gain cultural context while learning choreography inspired by the production. The workshop will be led by Brenda Flores and Christopher Cortez, accomplished artists with extensive professional experience in Mexican folklórico and concert dance.

Brenda Flores began her professional career as a Mexican folklórico dancer and later toured nationally and internationally with the renowned Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández, including a residency at Mexico City’s Palace of Fine Arts. She also contributed to the creative development of Disney’s Plaza de Coco aboard the Disney Treasure.

Christopher Cortez trained at The Alvin Ailey School in New York City and has performed with companies including Calpulli Mexican Dance Company and Ballet Nepantla. His work bridges traditional Mexican dance and contemporary performance.

This is a 90 minute class. During the final 15 minutes of the class, participants will share selected choreography with attendees from the Family & All Levels Workshop.

The workshop will be held at Dance Progressions (403 Aspen Airport Business Center, Aspen, CO 81611).
